Psalm 5:1-3 (NIV)

Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my sighing.  Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to You I pray.  In the morning, O Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait in expectation.

This is from a letter by John Adams.

Statesmen, my dear Sir, may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone, which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand.  The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue; and if this cannot be inspired into our people in a greater measure than they have it now, they may change their rulers and the forms of government, but they will not obtain a lasting liberty.  They will only exchange tyrants and tyrannies.

19 day left until inauguration day.

For faithfulness as we pray for President-elect Barack Obama, the Vice President-Elect and other leaders.

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.  colossians 1:9

As the only sovereign God, the one to whom all our allegiance is due we bow before You now.  We ask, Lord, that You will enable us now to set askide all distractions and cares and focus our prayers on all our governmental leaders, especially our new President and Vice President.

Lord, make us faithful in prayer, even when we may not agree with those You have placed into authority over us.  You have told us to remain steadfast in intercession, asking for our leaders to be flodded with all knowledge of your will.  Hold God, enable us to become true and consistent intercessors, praying for our new President and his administration, today and every day.  In the name of Jesus, Amen.

For insight and wisdom for President Elect Obama’s choice for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Shaun Donovan, so the homeless may be helped and those in difficulty with their housing situation may be assisted.

The king will reply, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.  Matthew 25:40

Loving God, in Your goodness and love You have sought us out and offered us the free gift of salvation.  We praise and glorify You for such extraordinary love; it is expressed in the love we show for one another, especially those in dire need.

Lord, we thank You for leading President-Elect Barack Obama to choose Shaun Donovan to be Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.  We pray that you will give him great compassion and wisdom, enabling him to see the needs of others above his own at all times.  May he be willing to flight for “the least of these” as an advocate for those who otherwise might have none.  Heavenly Father, let Your will be done for through the work of Shaun Donovan and his team, in the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

for the new administration to desire to know and do God‘s will in all things

Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.  Ephesians 5:17

Awesome God, You see all and You know all!  You rule over history and time, yet You are neither bound nor governed by them.  I praise You because You are sovereign and You know both the beginning and the end, for Your will shall be accomplished.

The discernment of Your will, Lord, is a challenging thing for the layman as well as the leader.  As we seek You in prayerand through Your Word, You make Your word, You make Your will manifest for each and every situation.  Do this, O God, for our nation’s new leaders, from President-Elect Braack Obama downward.  Give this administration an unquenchable need to discern and carry out what You desire for our nation.  We pray this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Amen

For God‘s choice to be discerned in the selection of Secretary of Agriculture, that our nation’s farms and food supply may be well cared-for.

Our barns will be filled with every kind of provision.  Our sheep will increase by thousands, by tens of thousands in our fields.  Psalm 144:13

Awesome God, all things are Yours, and Your mercy and goodness characterize the works of Your hands.  With You, Lord, there is no lack.  There is plenty, and there is full provision.

Knowing this, Heavenly Father, we now ask You to bring into position Your chosen person for the Secretary of Agriculture.  Our nation is a bountiful one; we need the best management of our farms and food supply.  Give President-Elece Barack Obama insight as he chooses the one to serve in this vital position.  We thank You, O God, for You care about every government official and desire what’s best for our nation.  We give You glory for that, and praise You as we pray in the name of Christ, Amen.

For President-Elect Barack Obama‘s team of advisors to be renewed in their minds as they discern God‘s will for the new administration.

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of Your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-His good, pleasing and perfect will.  Romans 12:2

For faithfulness in prayer by citizens and leaders alike as we look to the future without fear.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and Your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7

Great and marvelous God, we praise You for how You have moved through the prayers of Your people.  You have brought great change to our nation as You have answered our prayers and moved us forward since the horrors of 9/11 and the ensuing war on terror.

God, Your Word says to commit all our concerns to you in earnest prayer and thanksgiving.  May the citizens of our country unite with our leaders in denouncing fear, choosing instead to stand and declare our trust in You.  We rest in the peace You provide-a peace we cannot manufacture or explain-as we look ahead in confidence for the protection of our nation.  This we pray in the strong name of Christ Jesus, Amen.

For godly wisdom for President-Elect Brack Obama’s choice for Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, that our nation’s defense will be supervised and conducted as God desires.

No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength.  A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.  But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.–Psalm 33:16-19

O Lord God, I praise and thank You today for Your love for all You have made.  Thank You for the privilege of knowing You and belonging to You.  You reign in power and majesty, and I worshop You in appropriate fear and awe, for only You are holy.

Today I thank you for guiding President-Elect Barack Obama to choose Robert Gates to continue as Secretary of Defense.  Guide Secretary of Defense Gates as he plans for the shift from the Bush administration to the Obama administration, so the Department of Defense will be led and managed in a wise and godly way, and so that our troops will be well care for.  Encourage and strengthen him as he leads today, I pray in Your name, Amen.

For creativity and thoughtfulness as plans are made for the Inauguration on January 20, 2009.

But the noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands.  Isaiah 32:8

O Mighty and Awesome God, You are the God of the past, present and future, and You see all of time and history in perfet harmony.  You are kind and gracious as You guide us in our ways.

As members of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies work with members of the new President’s Inaugural Committee to plan for Inauguration Day, may they be guided by You in all their choices.  I pray for good day, characterized by prayer and faith in You.  I pray that plans will glorify and honor You in all ways that this new administration may begin on sound footing, honoring You in all things.  In Your name, Amen.

For wisdom and cohesiveness to characterize the teamwork of the President-and Vice President-Elect.

How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!  Psalm 133:1

Lord God, You know all hearts and You discern our motives in ways we cannot know.  You are wise and good and truthful in all things, and You bring together that which can easily be torn apart.  You love unity and in Your triune nature, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, You are a holy personification of what you desire for all himan relationships.

Today we ask that you bring oneness to our President and Vice President-Elect.  give them unity in all they do, from national policy to work in Congress, to respect for each other. Let them experience a pleasure they did not anticipate, and a joy they could not experience if they were divided and contentious.  We give You glory for this, in the name of Christ our Lord, Amen

For the President-Elect to be patient in every endeavor.

The end of a matter is better than its begining, and patience is better than pride.  Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.–Ecclesiastes 7:8-9

Holy God, all wisdomand knowledge begin with You.  you alone hold eternity and truth in Your hands.  Discernment comes from You and You see and know all motives and purposes.  You are awesome and wise, and we begin by recognizing and praising Your authority and knowledge.

Lord, it is sometimes our nature to respond with fury rather than restraint in times of stress or trouble.  but God, we also know that through You we can do all things, even those things that go directly against our nature.  We ask you to do this work now in our Porsident Elect, and make him a man of caution, reason and prespective.  Enabe him, O God, to be able to see the big picture, and to have a patient spirt that eschews pride and emotionalism.  Give him, Lord, Your patience, great and long suffering, in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ, Amen

For justice and mercy to be in the forefront of concerns of the new administration.

He has showed You, O man, what is good.  and what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with Your God.  Micah 6:8

Living Lord God, how I praise and thank You today that You have shown Your people what You desire from us.  In Your kindness and love You have pointed us toward You and Your righteousness.  Thank You for Your Word which lovingly reveals Your standards for the way we must live.  Thank You for being a holy and just God!

I bring the members of the new administration before you today, asking that they will burn with desire to please and honor You in all their ways.  may they long to do what You say is good, O Lord–to act justly, to live mercifully and to walk with You daily in humility and gentleness.  When they are tempted to bring You sacrifices, God, remind them that You show them what is truly good, and protect them from substitutes.  In Your holy name, Amen

For prayer to characterize everything that is done in the new administration.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.  Pomans 12:12
Exalted and holy God, we thank You for the gift of prayer, because we may speak with You at any time and at all times!  Since You are timeless, You hear all ourprayers no matter when we offer them.  This is an incredible truth, Lord, and we are grateful for the privilege You give us to come to You in intercession.
God, There is no way for us ti see the triumphs and the tribulations this new administration will face in the coming months and years.  But incredibl, God, You see these things, and You can prepare us in advance for their arrival–but only when we seek You in prayer.  Encourage our new President, his cabinet and all who serve under him to develop and embrace a lifestyle of faithful, persistent, patient prayer to You.  Draw them to You, O God, with a desire to seek You and hear Your voice, from the White House to Capitol Hill.  We boldly ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

For the President-and Vice President-Elect to humbly acknowledge their need to consult with God as they make their plan, cooperating with God to bring about His will.
He will call upon me, and i will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.  Psalm 91:15
O Lord God, You are high and Lifted up, yet You invite us to speak with You, even to cry to You.  We praise You for being an approachable and inviting God who makes good on every promise in Your word.  I exalt You for reaching to us in our frailty and weakness, giving us Your power and presence.
Lord God, as we look to the establishment of the new administration, I pray for the President-and Vice President-Elect, that they may honor and acknowledge You in every part of their new administration.  May they turn to You on clam days and in times of trouble alike, seeking to consult with You in all their plans.  Let them know beyond all doubt that You promise to hear and answer when they pray to You.  Thank You might God, Amen.
